This vintage Khotan rug is a handmade, one-of-a-kind carpet distinguished by its richly drawn all-over field and wide, intricately patterned border. The burgundy field is enlivened with ivory and soft blue motifs, creating a refined East Turkestan composition with strong decorative presence and collector-friendly character. Its balanced geometry and layered patterning make it an ideal centerpiece for a living room, dining room, or office.

Khotan rugs are from the Chinese autonomous region of Xinjiang, Chinese Turkestan. These unique rugs made in the towns Khotan, Kashgar, and Yarkand are often referred to as Samarkand after the main trading town in the region. They have a combination of designs and being on the silk route have influences from their Chinese, Turkoman, and Turkish neighbors. Fretwork, cloud borders, trellis patterns, pomegranates and carnations all are incorporated into their designs. They are of long and relatively narrow size with simplistic and spacious designs.
