Antique Sparta Runner Rug (2' x 10')
Dimensions: 2'9" x 10'5" (84 cm x 318 cm).
Circa: 1940.
This antique Sparta runner, circa 1940, is a handmade, one-of-a-kind piece distinguished by its finely drawn all-over geometric lattice and understated Greek character. The elongated field in faded indigo and ivory is framed by a narrow decorative border, giving the rug a refined, architectural presence with a beautifully time-softened palette. Its low-contrast pattern and elegant proportions make it especially well suited for a hallway, entryway, or kitchen.
Faded cool tones of indigo, ivory, slate, and taupe, with a indigo field.

Sparta rugs are woven in the town of Isparta in south west Turkey. They produce rugs that are curvilinear in design with scrolling arabesques, leaves and flowers, usually in a softer palette and more often with central medallions and open fields but also use all over patterns. They are woven on a cotton foundation with an all wool pile.
